media burn / ant farm. 1975

“Media Burn” by Ant Farm. Excerpt from Ant Farm’s classic video art piece examining and satirizing the media, particularly the impact of television. On July 4, 1975, what a TV newscaster described as a “media circus” assembles at San Francisco’s Cow Palace Stadium. A pyramid of television sets are stacked, dowsed with kerosene, and set ablaze. Then a modified 1959 Cadillac El Dorado Biarritz, piloted by two drivers who are guided only by a video monitor between their bucket seats, crashes through the pyramid destroying the TV sets.

La galerie Loevenbruck organise des projections du film de Gilles Coudert autour de l’artiste Jean Dupuy au cinéma le Saint-André-des-Arts tous les jours, en présence du réalisateur ou d’invités.

Le film de Gilles Coudert raconte le destin singulier, humain, sensible, romanesque, extraordinaire de Jean Dupuy, artiste hors normes, charismatique et singulier. Portrait d’un personnage aux multiples vies : pionnier de l’art technologique, performeur et grand ordonnateur de soirées artistiques dans le New York effervescent des années 1970–1980, devenu ermite « graphologue », bricoleur et anagrammiste, retiré à Pierrefeu, nid d’aigle perché au sommet d’une montagne de l’arrière-pays niçois.

Le film se tisse en croisant l’échange intime entre l’artiste et le réalisateur avec les témoignages de Patricia Brignone, Catherine Cattaneo, Augustin Dupuy, Alexandre Gérard, Arnaud Labelle-Rojoux, Éric Mangion, Jeffrey Perkins, Julia Robinson et Christian Xatrec. Des images d’archives, pour la plupart inédites, invitent les spectateurs à suivre l’itinéraire unique de Jean Dupuy en replaçant ses actions dans leur contexte historique et artistique.
