call for applications: creative improvisation and instant composition

THE WORKSHOP

The workshop is addressed to musicians with experience in the field of collective improvisation. The afternoon sessions – led by Alvin Curran, Joëlle Léandre and Eddie Prévost – are devoted to instrumental practice, real-time-composing and deep listening.
The goal is to convey the notions, principles and techniques which characterized a phase of great creativity in this area.

The morning sessions deal with recent issues of musicological research: papers by Vincenzo Caporaletti, Sabine Feisst, Valentina Bertolani, Marc Hannaford, Maurizio Farina, Kai Lothwesen, Ingrid Pustijanac, Veniero Rizzardi and Gianmario Borio; report on experiences and historic perspectives by Alvin Curran, Joëlle Léandre and Eddie Prévost.

HOW TO APPLY

The workshop scholarships will be awarded to 12 musicians.

The winners will receive:
– accommodation in a double room from 26th-29th October 2023 (inclusive) at the Sapienza Guest Houses;
– lunch from 27th to 29th October (inclusive);
– certificate of attendance providing that they have taken part in all the sessions (100% attendance)

Please note that there is no registration fee and the workshop is free of charge.
The winners should bring their own instruments. A percussion set, a grand piano and amplifiers will be provided.

macro (roma): lab for new imaginations _ open call

IT — Per due settimane, dal 4 al 17 settembre, avrà luogo la terza edizione del Lab for New Imaginations promosso dal Dipartimento per l’Educazione Preventiva del museo Macro. Si tratta di un progetto formativo che prevede una serie di incontri in presenza rivolti a un gruppo di artisti visivi e sonori, curatori, designers, ricercatori e scrittori emergenti residenti in Italia, che verranno selezionati attraverso una open call aperta fino all’11 giugno 2023. È l’occasione per questi giovani talenti di collaborare alla creazione di nuove idee, contenuti e progetti incoraggiando processi di auto-organizzazione volti alla creazione e realizzazione di un output editoriale collettivo. Ai partecipanti verranno offerti una serie di incontri con il team del museo e alcuni degli artisti coinvolti nel programma espositivo; verranno inoltre introdotti a curatori, artisti e progetti editoriali attivi sul territorio romano. Un laboratorio di sperimentazione per porre domande e idee che sfidano vari modelli di pratica curatoriale, artistica ed editoriale. Trovi tutte le info e le modalità di partecipazione qui.

EN — For two weeks, from 4 to 17 September, the third edition of the Lab for New Imaginations, conceived and promoted by the Department for Preventive Education of the Macro museum will take place. A training project that provides a series of in-person meetings aimed at a group of visual and sound artists, curators, designers, researchers and emerging writers residing in Italy, who will be select through an open call open until 11 June 2023. This is an opportunity for young talents to collaborate on the creation of new ideas, content and projects by encouraging processes of self-organization aimed at the creation and realization of a collective editorial output. Participants will be offered a series of meetings with the museum’s team and some of the artists involved in theexhibition programme; they will also be introduced to curators, artists and independent publishing projects active in Rome. It is an experimental workshop conceived to ask questions and drafy ideas that challenge various models of curatorial, artistic and publishing practices.
