Nel pomeriggio di martedì 17 gennaio 2023 vengono presentati alla Biblioteca Universitaria di Genova due nuovi video-documenti che fanno parte della serie Incontri sul verbovisuale, di Riccardo Boglione e Georgina Torello. Così, dopo quelli dedicati a Ugo Carrega (2015) e Arrigo Lora Totino (2020), verranno proiettati i fiammanti Mario Diacono’s Writhings e Mirella Bentivoglio: groviglIO.
Nel primo caso – première assoluta – il poeta, critico e gallerista romano radicato negli Stati Uniti spiega, fra le altre cose, il percorso che lo ha fatto approdare ai suoi tipici “objtexts”, e illustra i rapporti avuti con importanti artisti e scrittori del 900.
Nel caso di Bentivoglio il video – incluso nella retrospettiva Quanto Bentivoglio? in corso alla Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna di Roma – non solo getta luce sulla sua poliedrica vicenda artistica, ad esempio attraverso l’analisi della celebre Storia di un monumento, ma rivela anche aspetti curiosi della sua parabola come critica.

A pact between poets of every generation has always existed, but the question lingers about who is permitted to be complicit in this pact. Allison Grimaldi Donahue investigates the nature of the pact between poets, the tension between anxiety and influence, and how female poets have been excluded and included, at varying historical points, in this chain of relationships. Through a poetic and theoretical performance and via an artist’s book published for the occasion, Grimaldi Donahue makes space for the female voices associated respectively with Pound and Pasolini and interrogates her own position as female and poet.

During the recording for the 1982 film on William Burroughs (the resulting programme airing in the UK on 22nd February 1983), Arena followed him to the home and studio of old friend Francis Bacon, where he drops in for a cup of tea and a catch up. This meeting has never been fully broadcast, and the clip is supposedly shown uncut as the pair discuss their views on painting.
This unofficial, Fair Use/Fair Dealings compilation by Barrington Arts also includes all other related footage from that day in 1982 that has ever been publicly leaked.
This unauthorised edit also includes a soundtrack of COIL tracks recorded in the same period as the film footage (1982-83).
The majority of the footage here was directed by Howard Brookner and Nigel Finch.
