“Where olive trees weep”

“Where Olive Trees Weep” offers a searing window into the struggles and resilience of the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation. It explores themes of loss, trauma, and the quest for justice.

We follow, among others, Palestinian journalist and therapist Ashira Darwish, grassroots activist Ahed Tamimi, and Israeli journalist Amira Hass. We witness Dr. Gabor Maté offering trauma-healing work for a group of women who have been tortured in Israeli prisons.

Ancient landscapes bear deep scars, having witnessed the brutal reality of ancestral land confiscation, expulsions, imprisonment, home demolitions, water deprivation, and denial of basic human rights. Yet, through the veil of oppression, we catch a glimpse of resilience—deep roots that have carried the Palestinian people through decades of darkness and shattered lives.

This emotional journey bares the humanity of the oppressed while grappling with the question: what makes the oppressor so ruthlessly blind to its own cruelty?

14, 16 e 17 maggio 2024, roma, cineforum palestina: gaza – nakba – catastrofe

Per ricordare la Nakba a 76 anni dalla “catastrofe”, il genocidio del popolo palestinese espulso dalle sue terre con la violenza – 750.000 persone nel 1948, altre migliaia nel 1967 – e per riflettere sulla ulteriore catastrofe in corso a Gaza e in Cisgiordania, dal 14 al 17 maggio si terrà nella sala Zavattini dell’Archivio Audiovisivo del Movimento Operaio e Democratico ETS (via Ostiense 106, Roma), in collaborazione con l’associazione Cultura è libertà, con Al Ard Film Festival e con Nazra Palestine Short Film Festival, una rassegna di film di autori e autrici palestinesi.

Con questa rassegna, ispirandosi a Zavattini e al suo impegno per la pace, L’AAMOD vuole mostrare un cinema che sappia suscitare nel pubblico l’indignazione per la cancellazione dell’umanità alla quale si sta assistendo: “Uomo, vieni fuori! Omo, veni foras!” era infatti l’incipit potente del film “La Veritàaaa” (1983).

Anche oggi far riemergere l’umanità, il desiderio di pace e di giustizia, e costruire un nuovo umanesimo sono obiettivi fondamentali per cui spendersi ed esporsi.

the worst is yet to come? – un special rapporteur francesca albanese at the european parliament

A public hearing was held on April 9th at the European Parliament on the ongoing genocide in Gaza, and the failure of EU Member States and institutions to meet their obligations to prevent it.

• Francesca Albanese (United Nations Special Rapporteur for Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories)
• Daniel Levy (President of US-Middle East Project, former senior adviser to the Israeli government of Ehud Barak and former member of official Israeli delegation to peace talks at Taba and Oslo B under Yitzhak Rabin.)
• Diana Buttu (Lawyer and analyst, former legal adviser to Palestinian negotiating team and to President Mahmoud Abbas)

Hosted by the Left in the European Parliament, the event was organised by MEPs Clare Daly and Mick Wallace MEP, and co-chaired with Manu Pineda MEP (Chair of the European Parliament Delegation for Relations with Palestine) and Marc Botenga MEP.

The event was attended by MEPs and a large number of EU staff from the EU institutions in Brussels, including the European Parliament, the European Commission and the Council of the EU.
